Family Camp 2012: Anticipation

Bethany’s annual Family Camp is coming soon!  This year’s Family Camp will be held on March 11-16, at the Le Grandeur Palm Resort in Johor, Malaysia.

Family Camp is a time when the whole church family gathers for a week, to study God’s Word and have fellowship with one another. 

The theme for Family Camp 2012 is on “The Day of the Lord”.   This is a reference to the second coming of Christ.   

Here are two reasons why we should come for this family camp:

 1.  Dealing with the problem of ignorance 

- 1 Thess. 4:13

When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church about the Second Coming of Christ, he wrote, “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren..."  We are not meant to be ignorant regarding the Second Coming of Christ.  Instead, we are meant to have knowledge!

The question that we must ask ourselves is:  How much do we know about the Second Coming of Christ?  If we examine our knowledge of the Second Coming of Christ, we may find that we do not know as much as we think we do.

Family Camp is a great time for us to gain knowledge about the Second Coming of Christ, to find out what the Bible teaches regarding this doctrine.  This is an important doctrine concerning God’s plan for the future!  Let us look forward to growing in our knowledge at the Family Camp!

2.  Learning how to apply doctrine to life 

- 1 Thess. 5:6

As the Apostle Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church about the Second Coming of Christ, he also instructed them to “watch and be sober”.  The doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ is not meant to remain as just head knowledge.  The knowledge that we gain must change the way we live.  It must cause us to “watch and be sober”.

Does the knowledge of the Second Coming of Christ affect the way we live?  Are our thoughts and actions affected by what we know about the Second Coming of Christ?  If our answer is “no”, then we still have much to learn regarding the Second Coming of Christ!

Let us look forward to going beyond head knowledge at the Family Camp.  Let us come with hearts that will respond to what we hear, and be ready to apply what we have learnt at Family Camp.
