WHEREIN IS OUR CONFIDENCE IN PRAYER FOUND?
There are Christians today who call themselves “prayer generals”. They speak of how their prayers are powerful enough to storm the gates of hell and to defeat the forces of evil. Their emphasis is on how great their prayers are and how God would hear them. Real prayer is not about how powerful our prayers are, but how powerful and faithful God is as He graciously answers our prayers.

WHEN WE GO THROUGH TRYING SITUATIONS
The results of the “O” and “A” levels will be out soon. Those affected would naturally be concerned about what grades they would be getting. Of course, if we were to receive good grades, it is natural for us to rejoice and to give praise to God. However, if our results were not good, how should we respond then?
Some can be affected adversely by this predicament. They can allow themselves to feel down and even depressed if they are not careful. The best thing to do is to exercise hope in God. Having not so good results does not spell “DOOM”. Our challenge is to see that there is great hope in the Lord and in His word.
HOPE BASED ON THE PROMISES OF GOD
“That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.”
- Hebrews 6:18
Our hope should not be in our grades and how well or how badly we have done. Our hope should be in the promises of God. Whatever God has promised in His word, it will definitely be fulfilled. When our Lord Almighty promised Abraham that He would bless Him and multiply His descendants, He did not just make a promise. He doubled the intensity of the strength of the His promises by swearing by Himself that He would keep them. The eternal God wanted to show that by two immutable (Unchangeable) things, the nature of His promise and His oath, there is the certainty that what He had promised will indeed be fulfilled. God’s promises will always hold true for it is impossible for Him to lie about this. Through this, we can be greatly comforted. We can find refuge in God by laying hold of this hope set before us through His promises. Young people, we need to apply this hope in God especially during trying times. With God’s promise of blessings, we can be confident of better things for the future. Our part is to have hope.
HOPE AS AN ANCHOR IN THE STORMS OF LIFE
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, which enters the Presence behind the veil…”
- Hebrews 6:19
This hope in God can be established as something that is both strong and firm. It is like an anchor that is tied to a boat in the midst of a storm. Our soul is like this boat. If there is no anchor present, our soul can be tossed to and fro in the midst of the storms of life. It can drift from one negative thought to another. The challenge for is to establish hope in God and His promises as an anchor for the soul. I remember the time when I had disappointing results. I was feeling down and discouraged. However, I did not give up hope. I learnt to exercised hope in God’s promises (Proverbs 3:5-6). I believe that God can do something better with my life. Hope slowly became an anchor for my soul. Today, I have found this great privilege of having hope as a steadfast and strong anchor. It is a privilege because this is found only through the Lord Jesus Christ. We can enter into the presence of God, the holies of holies, because the Lord Jesus has paved the way for us to enter in. Let’s learn to cultivate this hope in God till it becomes an anchor for our soul, that in the midst of the problems of life, like disappointing results, we would remain strong, steadfast and hopeful.
