Isa 9:7
TOPIC OF PROPHECY: THE REIGN OF THE MESSIAH
The Divine Messiah was foretold as One who would reign over Israel. The following
text describe the kingdom He would one day establish.
“Of the increase
of His government there will be no end,
Upon the throne of His Father David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From this time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the LORD will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:7
1. The Line of David
a) This was a promise God gave to David (2 Samuel 7:16)
b) The Messiah’s kingdom will have “no
end”
2. The Messianic Kingdom will grow
3. It would also be:
a) Well ordered
b) It would be established with judgment and justice
4. The zeal of the Lord
a) This is a reference to the power of the Lord committed to fulfilling
this prophecy
b) God would fulfill this prophecy with great strength of commitment
ANOTHER ASPECT OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD REVEALED
Jesus came preaching about the Kingdom of heaven (Cf. Matthew 3:17, 23 etc).
However, in His message, He revealed another aspect of the Kingdom of God-
the spiritual.
The apostle Paul well summarized what the Kingdom of God really was in his
epistle to the Romans.
“ For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking,
but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:17
The Messianic Kingdom would be established only when Christ Jesus returns
to the earth (cf. Revelation 19, 20). Unfortunately, this message was not
well understood by many in the first century!
