TOPIC OF PROPHECY: THE MESSIAH

THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF TEXT DEVOTED TO “THE MESSIAH”

God gave many prophecies to Isaiah concerning the Messiah! The following reasons may be highlighted:-

1. For Identification purposes

a) To prevent false prophets who would claim Messiahship blatantly

b) To ascertain the true identify of the genuine Messiah

2. For Relationship purposes

a) God would want His people to learn how to relate to the Messiah well

b) The Anointed One would lead, and He would like to see the people respond positively

3. For Instructive purposes

a) The Messiah would come and teach the people how to relate to God better

b) He would come and teach deep and rich truths from the Scriptures

4. For fulfillment purposes

a) The Messiah would fulfil the many prophecies of God written about Him

b) He would demonstrate to Israel how faithful and gracious God had been to the nation all this while! His word would by fulfilled by the Messiah. He would teach how to obey God and His word!

THE PROPHECY CONCERNING THE BIRTH OF THE MESSIAH

The prophecies began with the announcement concerning the birth of the Messiah.
“Therefore the LORD Himself shall give you a sign:
‘Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son,
and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14

1. The birth of the Messiah would be a veritable miracle in itself

2. He would be born of a virgin

3. He would live up to His name Immanuel- “God with us”
