WHY WAS THE TITLE "THE BRANCH" USED?

Let us consider the following reasons why the phrase, “The Branch” was utilized.

1. To show that the connections were still intact:-

a) Connection between Israel and the Messiah (The Branch)

i) Israel had broken God’s Covenant severely and frequently

ii) Nevertheless God had not cast Israel away

iii) The Branch arose from the vine Israel (Cf. Isaiah 5)

iv) God kept His word of promise given to Abraham

b) Connection between the Davidic Line and the Messiah

i) God had promised that David would never lack a man to sit on Israel’s throne

ii) David’s descendants however sinned and grieved the Lord much

iii) Nevertheless The Branch came from the royal line of David

iv) God would ensure that He would never renege on His promise

2. To describe the work that The Branch would have to do

a) He would save Israel/Judah

i) Spiritual redemption

ii) Physical deliverance

b) He would come as a Ruler

i) He would rule Israel

ii) He would also rule the world

c) He would be an excellent ruler

i) He would cause the fruit of the earth to be excellent

ii) He would bring about a great sense of safety on the earth
