THE PROPHECY CONCERNING THE "BRANCH"

Isaiah was not the only one who prophesied about “The Branch.” Let us consider other texts. Three prophets preached on this subject “The Branch.” Obviously, it must have been important enough for all of them to preach on this subject. It would be good to collate all the texts that deal with this subject.

The Prophet Jeremiah

“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD,
That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”

Jeremiah 23:5-6

The Prophet Zechariah

“Hear, O Joshua, the high priest,
You and your companions who sit before you,
For they are a wondrous sign;
For behold, I am bringing forth
My Servant, the BRANCH.”

Zechariah 3:8

The Prophet Isaiah

“ In that day the Branch of the LORD
shall be beautiful and glorious;
And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent
Excellent and appealing for those who have escaped.”

Isaiah 4:2

STUDYING A TOPIC THAT SPANS THREE PROPHETIC BOOKS

Here are some practical tips that will help us understand how to interpret the topic “Branch.” Let us consider the chronological approach.
Approaching the prophetic books chronologically is helpful. Out of the three prophetic books, the following order may be noted:

1. Isaiah (pre-exilic; he did not personally witness the fall of Jerusalem)

2. Jeremiah (exilic; he saw the destruction of Jerusalem)

3. Zechariah (post-exilic; he was one of the prophets who returned to Jerusalem after the 70 year exile
