ISRAEL'S CHOICES
The prophecies in the Book of Isaiah were recorded in real-time history!
The prophecies of impending judgment of the nation of Israel must not
be unfairly blamed on God! Israel had made its own choices!
1. The nation chose to reject God and His laws
2. It had chosen idols to worship
3. It had chosen to walk in sinful and wicked ways!
SIN’S CONSEQUENCES
Israel cannot blame God for the consequences that Isaiah prophesied would happen!
God would have loved to give to His people peace, but instead the specter
of war threatened!
The aftermath of war was described grimly in the following text.
“ And in the day seven women shall take hold of one man,
Saying, ‘We will eat our own food, and wear our own apparel,
Only let us be called by your name, to take away our reproach.”
Isaiah 4:1
1. The aftermath of war
Men go to war! They are also severely maimed or killed in war!
2. Not enough men for marriageable women
Imagine the disparity of ration between women and men! Seven women to just
one man! These women offered to provide for themselves, absolving the man
from his normal duties as a husband to provide for the household! The women
were so overcome by a sense of desperation and shame that they would go against
normal convention- just to get married!
THE PROPHETIC
OFFER OF “A
BRANCH”
Prophecy warned about the specter of war; but that word fell on deaf ears!
Prophecy would be fulfilled whether or not man would heed its voice!
Once again a prophetic word sought to bring fresh hope to those who escaped
with their life!
“ In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be
Beautiful and glorious;
And the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing
For those of Israel who have escaped.”
Isaiah 4:2
Hope was offered- in the form
of a Branch! Would those who had escaped appreciate the significance of
this “Branch of the Lord?”
