PROJECTIONS IN PROPHECY

One of the most uplifting things about prophetic writings is the “projections” that are often found in them. Here is an example of these projections.

“Many people shall come and say,
‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths,
For out of Zion shall go forth the law
And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

Isaiah 2:3

IMPORTANT THINGS TO BEAR IN MIND

What are some of the things we must bear in mind as we study “projections?” Two features must be highlighted (at this juncture).

1. Guard against making quick identification with current events
Many take words or phrases in these projections and make them apply to current (or even historical events).

2. Always attempt to get the whole big picture in full and proper view

a) Projections are often huge

b) They are never found in a single verse (or passage)

c) All passages must be carefully linked

PROJECTION OF PEOPLE SEEKING GOD

The above projection of the future has the following features:-

a) Many people will be drawn to the Lord

b) They will actually wend their way to Zion… the mountain of God

c) They will seek the Lord’s teachings

d) The word of God itself would be sent forth from Jerusalem

e) The Lord Himself will be the Main Teacher of all who seek Him!

It would be a mistake to think that this text applies to the context described in Acts 2! The context of Isaiah 2 is far greater than the beginning of the Church (Acts 2)!
