THE PROPHETIC FUTURE


Prophecies essentially deal with the future as history dealt with the past! Prophecies to God would be simply history foretold! That is a remarkable perspective indeed.

“Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the LORD’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.”

Isaiah 2:2

1. In the latter days

a) The prophetic future is often left “vague”

b) “The latter days” is the only time frame given

2. The mountain of the Lord’s house

a) Whereas the time frame is not specified, the landscape is

b) Reference is made to the “mountain of the Lord’s house”

i) This is a clear reference to Jerusalem

ii) The house of the Lord sits on a mountain

c) Consider the following description of the holy city of Jerusalem

“Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised
In the city of our God, in His holy mountain.
Beautiful in elevation,
The joy of the whole earth,
Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,
The city of the great King.”

Psalm 48:1-2

3. Shall be established

a) In the time of Isaiah
The prophet preached powerful words of indictment against the city of Jerusalem (Cf. Isaiah 1)

b) The prophetic future
In this vision of the latter days, Isaiah proclaimed a time when God would establish Jerusalem! (This would take place only in the Millennial kingdom).
