THE
DESOLATION THAT COMES AS A RESULT OF SIN
One of the ways we can teach pupils about the deadliness of sin is to point
out the desolation that results from it. The following text highlights this.
A. The picture
of a very sick person.
“The whole head
is sick,
and the whole heart faints,
From the sole of the foot even to the head,
There is no soundness in it,
But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores,
They have not been closed or bound up,
Or soothed with ointment.” Isaiah 1:5-6
1. Head
2. Heart
3. Wounds, bruises, putrefying sores
The application is obvious. The nation of Israel had become very sick! Sin
has terrible consequences!
B. The picture of a very weak country
“Your country is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire;
Strangers devour your land in your presence;
And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard,
As a hut in a garden of cucumbers,
As a besieged city.” Isaiah 1:7-8 1. Desolation
2. Cities burned with fire
3. Marauders occupy the country
4. The country is pitifully
called a mere “booth” or “hut” (shack)
Sin has dreadful consequences! We must alert our pupils to beware the deadliness
of sin!
