DOUBTS AND MISGIVINGS

There is hardly a person who has no doubts or and misgivings. The following things can happen if these problems are not dealt with adequately.

1. Faith may erode badly

2. Learning capacity hampered significantly

3. Loss of joy and meaning in religion as a whole

A MAJOR PROBLEM SURFACED

The following text reveals a serious problem that affected ancient Israel, in the days of the prophet Isaiah.
“But Zion said,
‘The LORD has forsaken me,
and my LORD has forgotten me.” Isaiah 49:14

1. These words were tinged with both sadness and bitterness

2. The words represent the unhealthy spiritual state of the nation

3. Doubt and despair are also to be detected in these words

4. Obviously, these words display a deeper problem- one involving the emotions

DEALING WITH PROBLEMS

The Lord gave an immediate response to this bitter cry of Israel.
“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
and not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget, but I will not forget you”
Isaiah 49:15

1. Deal with the emotional aspects and not just the spiritual

2. In dealing with emotions, assurance must be given

3. Help pupils to use the mind to help combat runaway emotions

4. The word of God can play such a significant role
a) Challenge pupils to meditate on God’s word

b) Challenge pupils to hide God’s word in the heart (Cf. Isaiah 49:16)
