LEARNING FROM THE PROPHET ISAIAH

How did Isaiah answer the problems that were brought to him? There are many lessons we can learn from him.

1. “Why do you say… and speak…?” Isaiah 40:27

a) It is good to make pupils look at themselves

b) It is good to make them understand themselves

This was the first thing that Isaiah sought to do when this problem came up- (where Israel charged that God had passed the nation by).

2. “My way is hidden from the Lord…” Isaiah 40:27

a) This was what Israel felt

b) It nursed this thought

c) But is it a fact that our ways are hidden from the Lord?

d) Isaiah pointed out a number of outstanding truths to Israel

i) He brought a word of comfort Isaiah 40:1-2

ii) He spoke about how God was near His people as Shepherd
Isaiah 40:10-11

iii) He spoke about the greatness of God Isaiah 40:12-26

iv) These truths would cancel the false notion that our ways can ever be hidden from the Lord

3. “My just claim is passed over by my God” Isaiah 40:27

a) This is certainly not a fact

b) What could we bring to God as “a just claim?” (nothing!)

c) Isaiah pointed Israel to renew its relationship with God

d) He pointed out how God can give us all the help we may need in life Isaiah 40:28-31
