OUR RESPONSE

Our response to God is a vital concept that we must grapple with. There are many ways in which we can respond, but not all are appropriate.

1. We can reject

2. We can object

3. We can end up disobeying the Lord

Israel’s history is checkered with the above responses. All were wrong and inappropriate. The Messiah sought to teach the nation of Israel how to respond to God and His commandments, by His personal example.

THE SERVANT’S RESPONSE

How did the Messiah respond to the task entrusted Him? Let us ponder the following text.
“For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD,
and My God shall be My strength” Isaiah 49:5

Let us mull over these words carefully.

1. What the Messiah did not do

a) He did not disdain the task assigned to Him

b) He did not dismiss it as something small and insignificant

2. What the Messiah did

a) He sought the approval of the Lord (His Father)

b) He sought to be glorious in His sight

i) Obedience, He knew, is greatly prized

ii) Faithfulness, is also greatly approved of

c) He sought to find in the Lord the strength He needed to fulfill all that had been assigned to Him

d) He knew that as much strength from the Lord is needed in small tasks as large ones
