PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN SERVING GOD

Let us continue to meditate on this wonderful text from Isaiah.
“And now the LORD says,
Who formed Me from the womb to be His servant,
To bring Jacob back to Him.
So that Israel is gathered to Him.
(For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD,
And My God shall be My strength).” Isaiah 49:5

What are some of the common problems that many of us face when we serve the Lord? Let us consider some of these difficulties:-

1. We find that no task is easy

2. We discover that leading people back to God (“restoration”) is a difficult task

3. We find that we often lack the strength to hold steady to our God-given tasks

4. We tend to lose focus of the tasks entrusted to us

5. We end up being dispirited and discouraged

RESOLVING THESE PROBLEMS

How may we resolve these problems mentioned above? Let us take time to meditate on how Jesus (the subject of this text) was able to be faithful to His tasks!

1. Find delight in the Lord

This is the essence of the meaning of the phrase “I shall be glorious in the eyes of the Lord.”

a) God’s approval was all that Jesus cared about

b) The glory of the Lord was all He sought

c) He basked in the glory of serving His Father faithfully (Cf. John 17, Jesus’ reflective prayer of His life and ministry on earth)

2. Find strength in the Lord

This was something that we must learn well from the example of Jesus.

a) We may find this source of strength through prayer

b) We may find this source of strength through a close relationship maintained with God
