THE TEACHER AS A COACH

Have you ever thought of the Lord Jesus as a great Coach? This would be an apt modern day description of the way He sought to inspire and encourage His disciples to give of their very best. Let us consider how Jesus coached His disciples.

“You are the salt of the earth…” Matthew 5:13

“You are the light of the world…” Matthew 5:14

“Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see Your good works
and glorify Your Father in heaven” Matthew 5:16

EXAMPLES OF GOOD COACHING

1. Inspire

a) Help pupils reach down deep into their potential strength

b) Help them to know that they can be both salt and light simply because of the work of salvation in the their life

2. Explain

a) When things are fully comprehended there is much strength and power

b) Knowledge of the truth brings great liberating power

3. Reason

a) Use Reason

b) Help pupils to reason things out logically

“A city that is set on the hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,
But on a lampstand…” Matthew 5:15

c) Use interrogatives

“If salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned?”
Matthew 5:13

4. Encourage

“That they may see your good works and glorify
Your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
