HIGHLIGHTING THE TEACHING MINISTRY

It was the Lord Jesus Himself who gave to the disciples a tremendous impetus to the ministry of teaching. In the famous Great Commission text we read these words.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all men,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;
And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20

The ministry of teaching is closely tied in to vital ministries:-

1. Teaching and Ministry of making Disciples

Discipleship is closely tied in to the challenge of teaching. Without proper teaching, an effective ministry of making disciples is doubtful.

2. Teaching and Ministry of Baptising

Baptism is a wonderful symbol of our identification with the Lord Jesus Christ. This doctrine would never be fully understood and appreciated outside a strong teaching program.

3. Teaching and obeying the commandments of the Lord

Jesus gave many deep and profound teachings to His disciples. Only through a careful and deep teaching ministry would the teachings of Jesus be understood. It would also require careful teaching to help believers practise the teachings of Jesus without the risking being caught up with error.

AN EFFECTIVE TEACHING ARM OF THE CHURCH

The Sunday School is the honoured teaching arm of the Church. All SS teachers should feel a tremendous sense of both honour and responsibility when they become Sunday School teachers.
Through good teaching, the average believer can emerge as strong disciples. Through good teaching, the disciple will be able to keep the teachings of the Lord close to his heart.

LAUNCH OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL WEBPAGE- January 2007

We launch the Bethany Sunday School Webpage this month with a very clear goal in mind. This Webpage is dedicated to the strengthening of the ministry of teaching.

It is both our hope and prayer that this Webpage would serve as a source of instruction and inspiration to all involved in the teaching ministry- in Bethany and in all our IPC family. Let us make this new addition to the Bethany Website an invaluable one.
