God’s Word – To Learn It And To Live It!

I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him in the Sunday School.  I am mindful of the fact that we need to order our lives by the principles found in the Word of God. As the Psalmist put it:

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

Our class comprises married ladies, mostly with young children. We all face many competing demands on our time from various quarters. We struggle to cope with our different responsibilities towards our husbands, children, parents, employers, colleagues, friends etc. If we are not watchful, it is easy to allow God’s voice to be drowned out by the cacophony of life. We then court the danger of running the race of life in our own steam, according to our own rules. The warning from the Word of God is clear:

“Now these are the ones sown among thorns;
they are the ones who hear the word,
and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.”

Mark 4:18-19

It is imperative that we order our lives by the Word of God if we want to bear fruit in our lives.
“But these are the ones sown on good ground,
those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit; some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Mark 4:20

I am privileged to have a part to play in sharing the Word of God with the ladies in my class. It is my prayer that the Sunday School will always be a place where God’s Word is taught faithfully. As hearers of God’s Word, the onus is then on us to allow the Word to dwell in our hearts and be translated into practice in life. As a class, we have had the opportunity to study the lives of women in the Bible, the Book of Proverbs and we are currently studying the Gospel of Mark.

Real faith must manifest itself in works. We are conscious of the need to “consider one another in order to stir up love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24 The Sunday School class provides an excellent platform for us to learn to minister to one another as members of the same community of faith. We learn to “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15 Thus, we learn to empathize with and pray for one another.

Thank God for the Sunday School ministry and for the opportunity to serve here. I’m thrilled that together as a class, we can share this exciting challenge of learning and living the Word of God together!

About the class

Most of us are in our 30s, married, some with and some without children.   We each face struggles in our lives as wives, mothers and workers.  Some of us are new to the faith, while others have known of the Lord for many years but are still learning to truly appreciate the Lord and His Word.

We are constantly bombarded by the world’s idealism relating to how women should behave toward their husbands, how we should raise our children, how we should manage finances, how we should look, things we should engage ourselves and our families in to derive the ultimate success in life.  But fleeting moments of pleasure are often what the world offers.  They neither uplift you when you are down nor strengthen or sustain you to face future challenges in life.

In SSS, we learn great pearls of wisdom from the Word of God.  These biblical principles are indeed evergreen and can help empower us as we face the various challenges in our lives.  After studying the principles, we have frank and lively discussions on many topics (including wisdom, money, forgiveness, relationships, discipline, laziness) and their real-life applications.

Over the years a few of us have faced tough challenges like cancer, kids with serious health issues, spousal conflicts, job loss etc.  As a class we seek to minister to each other through each adverse circumstance.  In so doing we have had to re-look at ourselves, our mindsets, our priorities and our capabilities to decide how best we can be effective ambassadors for Christ.

Do join us if you want to continue to grow in depth and love for the Lord.
