"Love
one another" Romans 13:8a
THE
SUBJECT OF CHRISTIAN LOVE
Paul has already touched on this subject in the earlier chapters.
A quick recall may be useful before we read this additional word.
1. God's
love
a) This was
poured out (Cf. Romans 5:5)
b) This is seen
through the death of Christ for sinners (Cf. Romans 5:8)
c) Nothing will
separate us from the love of God in Christ (Cf. Romans 8:35,
39)
2. Brotherly
love
a) Genuine love
(Cf. Romans 12:9)
b) Christian
affection to be shown to each other (Cf. Romans 12:10)
ADDITIONAL
THOUGHTS ABOUT CHRISTIAN LOVE
The subject of Christian love is not exhausted by the above mention.
There is so much more to discover about Christian love.
"Owe
no one anything except to love one another,
for he who loves another has fulfilled the law."
Romans 13:8
1. A debt
of love
a) Love is a
debt that we owe:-
i) To God
ii) To fellow
human beings
b) All debts
are to be paid!
2. Fulfillment
of the law
a) Paul tied
in "love" with the "law" (of God).
b) If the law
of God must be fulfilled, so must Christian love be honoured and
fulfilled.
c) If there
is any talk about the love of the law, then there must also be the
fulfillment of the law in terms of loving on another.
