Text: Psalm 25
PRAYING FOR A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF GOD’S WAYS
The psalmist did not take for granted that he knew everything there was to know about the Lord and His ways. He may have had many years of experience walking with the Lord. Nevertheless, he knew that there were things that he still needed to know and discover! Hence, he sent forth this heartfelt plea!
“Show me Your ways, O LORD,
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truths and teach me;
For You are the God of my salvation,
On You I wait all the day.”
Psalm 35:4-5
1. The things we take for granted
The sad fact is that we take too many things for granted! The following are some of the things that we take for granted!
a) We take for granted our salvation
b) We take for granted our knowledge of the Scriptures
c) We take for granted our faith in the Lord
d) We take for granted our relationship with God!
2. There is danger of taking things for granted
Oftentimes the danger is not realized until we are in serious trouble. Wherein is the danger?
a) We become sluggish and stale in our faith
b) We lose the vibrancy of a healthy relationship with God
c) Our prayers are often hindered and remain unanswered
d) When troubles hit us, we find ourselves too weak to battle against the enemy
3. The challenge to pray earnestly for a deeper understanding of God’s ways
How do we know we have grown deeper in our understanding? We will know that we have indeed grown deeper when we experience at least two things:-
a) We will have fresh insights of the Lord as we ponder His word
b) We will find renewed strength in our soul
