Text: Psalm
22
DON’T FOCUS ON HOW WE START
Sometimes we get upset because we look at how we start! We look at the difficult obstacles in front of us and sometimes feelings of discouragement creep in! One of the important lessons we must master as we enter into the spiritual arena, is not to look at how we begin!
ONLY THE END MATTERS!
Psalm 22 may indeed be called a Messia nic psalm. It contained special references to the life and ministry of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. This psalm described in particular the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. If our focus is only on the suffering, we would have missed the whole point of the psalm! This wonderful psalm teaches us how to focus on the end!
“All the prosperous of the earth
shall eat and worship;
All those who go down to the dust
Shall bow before Him;
Even he who cannot keep himself alive!
A posterity shall serve Him.
It will be recounted of the LORD to the next generation,
They will come and declare His righteousness to a people
Who will be born, that He has done this.”
Psalm 22:29-31
1. “At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow” (Philippians 2:9)
This text makes us recall what the Apostle Paul concerning the latter days when God would cause all knees to bow before His glorious Son!
a) The rich
There would be some who would be blessed by riches. These would bow the knee in grateful acknowledgment of the Lord’s grace and blessings!
b) The Poor
There are some whose lot it is to be “poor.” Some are not even able to keep themselves alive, such may be the extent of their poverty. But they too may worship at the feet of the Lord Jesus because of their faith in Him!
2. “A posterity shall serve Him”
Psalm 22 has truly been fulfilled! The Lord Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies concerning His suffering and death! Now this prophecy is also fulfilled.
a) We are that posterity
b) Our task is to declare His righteousness to the next generation
