Text: Psalm 21

NEVER LOSING CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD

One of the most important things that we must learn in our battle against evil is to never lose confidence in the Lord. The danger of being overwhelmed by the strong tide of evil is very real. Thus we must be ever on our guard against this very real danger.

HOW WE MAY ALWAYS BE CONFIDENT

Let us ponder how the psalmist David sustained his confidence in the Lord.

"Your hand will find all Your enemies;
Your right hand will find those who hate You.
You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger;
The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath,
And the fire shall devour them."

Psalm 21:8-9

1. Trusting in God's omniscience

The wicked may think that they can get away with all their hateful deeds. But they are wrong. They cannot escape God's omniscience. God will find all His wicked enemies!

2. Trusting in God's omnipotence

The wicked may think themselves powerful. The reality is that only God is all-powerful. His right hand, symbolizing His power, would deal with the wicked in the appropriate time.

3. Trusting in the Righteous anger of God

God and His justice are inseparable. The Lord will be there for His people! The wicked will not prevail. Divine justice can be most fearful! The wicked will get their just rewards! They will indeed perish if they do not repent!

STANDING IN AWE OF THE POWER OF GOD

As David thought about the Lord, he came to the following conclusions:-

"Their offspring You shall destroy from the earth,
and their descendants from among the sons of men.
For they intended evil against You;
They devised a plot which they are not able to perform.
Therefore You will make them turn their back;
You will make ready Your arrows on Your string
Toward their faces.
Be exalted, O LORD, in Your own strength!
We will sing and praise Your power"

Psalm 21:10-13

When we dwell on the power of God, we will find our confidence renewed! Indeed, we can sing and praise, because God's power will overcome the might of the wicked! Evil cannot prevail ever!
