Study 46
Text: Psalm
14
A DEEP AWARENESS OF THE NATURE OF EVIL
In the battle against evil, there must never be naiveté! Instead there
must be an objective and deep awareness of the nature. Without this knowledge,
one can be overwhelmed by the raw power that evil emanates.
THE PRESENCE OF EVIL IN THE WORLD
David wasn't just a psalmist. He was also monarch of Israel. No matter how much
he did for his kingdom, evil could not be eradicated. Thus with great solemnity
he noted the activities of evil men.
"The fool said in his heart,
'There is no God.'
They are corrupt.
They have done abominable works.
There is none who does good."
Psalm 14:1
1.
Denial of the Existence of God
David was aware that there were some who denied the existence of God. Did they
think that if they denied His existence, they could then perpetrate evil wantonly?
2.
It all starts with the sinful heart
How could man deny the existence of his Maker? David understood that this sin
problem began with the heart rejecting God. When the sinful human denies the
very existence of God, it opens up even greater avenues for sin to pervade the
soul!
3.
Corruption next
Sin is never an isolated act. It has a great corrupting influence! And sin can
corrupt a soul so horribly, it defies easy description!
4.
Expressions of evil
Evil is not merely a feeling. It will express itself in "abominable works."
Every time we learn about atrocities committed, we must recognize them as terrible
expressions of evil.
5.
Evil has pandemic potential
Evil is never content till it spreads and corrupts everyone. With great sadness
David note, "There is NONE who does good" (Psalm 14:1)!
FLYING
THE FLAG OF FAITH
Yes, evil may be found everywhere. How does one fight the tide of sin that threatens
to engulf and drown the world? David flew his flag of faith defiantly.
"The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men"
Psalm 14:2a
God is not to be dismissed easily. He is still LORD! Proclaim Him!
