Study 35
Text: Psalm
10
ESTABLISHING FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS
There are fundamental tenets of faith that we must establish in our faith and
our life. Once they are firmly established, they will anchor us, no matter how
fierce the spiritual conflicts may be. Let us consider the fundamental tenets
the psalmist determined as the basis of his faith in the Lord.
"The Lord is King forever and ever
Lord, You have heard
the desire of the humble;
You will cause Your ear to hear,
To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed
"
Psalm 10:16-18
MEDITATING
ON FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS
The psalmist did well to list his basic tenets of faith and trust in God. But
he did more than just list them. He was "meditating" on these truths
in the following way.
1.
Meditating is choosing to dwell on God
The art of meditation involves choosing to dwell on God rather than the wicked
and his deeds.
2.
Meditating involves the vigorous rejection of negative thoughts
Meditating involves such a strong rejection of negative thoughts and ideas.
This must be done vigorously!
3.
Meditating involves an embracing of deep spiritual truths
Rejection of negative thoughts is not sufficient. The heart and mind must embrace
and feed on great spiritual truths. The soul needs such spiritual food!
4.
Meditating involves prayer
Meditating is never complete without the soul turning to the Lord in heartfelt
prayer. Meditating may be seen as a prelude to prayer! Meditation prepares the
heart and mind for meaningful communion with God.
5.
Meditation leads to the development of a great sense of hope
The heart may feel discouragement from time to time. However, those feelings
never last. The person who spends much time with the Lord will see his sense
of hope giving him necessary strength to carry on battling valiantly against
wickedness.
6.
Meditation leads to a bold declaration of continued faith in God
Meditation culminates in a bold declaration of faith of God. Wickedness may
seem to prevail. But the believer is certain that his faith in God as both Judge
and King will win out in the final analysis! May there be such faith always!
