Palm Sunday
BLESSED IS THE
KING!
THE COMMENCEMENT
OF THE MINISTRY OF JESUS
Jesus began His ministry in a very quiet manner! He preached! He taught
in the local synagogues! He proclaimed that the Kingdom of God was at
hand!
"The time is
fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand,
Repent, and believe in the Gospel." Mark 1:15
Nobody then could
figure out that the King Himself had come to invite people to be a part
of His Kingdom!
THE CONTINUATION
OF THE MINISTRY OF JESUS
Knowing that few could comprehend the significance of the Kingdom of God,
Jesus began to minister in other ways!
1. Miracles were performed:
a) The blind regained
their sight
b) The lame walked
2. The might of Satan
was broken
a) Demons were cast
out by Jesus again and again
b) The Disciples of
Jesus were also able to cast out demons (Luke 10:17)
These sign miracles
were done with a great sense of purpose! The question was whether Israel
would be able to recognize the true identity of Jesus!
THE CLIMAX OF JESUS'
PUBLIC MINISTRY
Thousands had heard and see Jesus ministry amongst them! Some still had
not made up their mind concerning Jesus! But there was a growing number
of people who had come to believe that Jesus was no ordinary man! These
had become the disciples of Jesus! With faith and joy they thronged the
streets of Jerusalem and began to chant these word as Jesus rode into
Jerusalem on the foal of an ass!
"Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!
Hosanna in the Highest." Matthew 21:9
The multitude began
to take up the cry of the Disciples! They began to cut palm leaves and
used them to wave to Jesus! Some others took off their coats and placed
them on the floor for Jesus and His donkey to walk on! They walked the
streets of Jerusalem till they came to the Temple!
COMMEMORATING PALM
SUNDAY
Palm Sunday commemorates this particular day when Jesus made a triumphal
entry into Jerusalem! For once, His nemeses, the religious hierarchy,
could not stop the fervent cries of adoration given to Jesus! They stood
by helplessly as all Jerusalem turned out to greet Jesus as "the
Son of David!" He was being recognized at last for who He truly was!
He was the Messiah, the Anointed King of Israel!
Let us this Palm Sunday, gratefully acknowledge Jesus as the Saviour and
Lord of our life! May we sing praises to Him! May we ever seek to serve
Him faithfully!
