“MY SOUL, WAIT SILENTLY FOR GOD ALONE”
(I) TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS IN LIFE
1. Attacks
“How long will you attack a man?” Psalm 62:3
2. Plots
“They only consult to cast him down from his high position;
They delight in lies; they bless with their mouth but they curse inwardly.” Psalm 62:4
3. Oppression
“Surely men of low degree are a vapour,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapour.
Do not trust in oppression, nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” Psalm 62:9-10
(II) CHOOSING TO PRACTISE WAITING ON THE LORD
1. A Personal Choice that must be made
“Truly my soul silently waits for God…” Psalm 62:1a
“My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him” Psalm 62:5
2. A Personal Understanding of the practice of Waiting on the Lord
a) Waiting on God alone (Psalm 62:5a)
b) Expectations are from God alone (Psalm 62:5b)
c) Exercising faith in God:-
i) Our salvation (Psalm 62:1, 6)
ii) Our rock (Psalm 62:2a, 6)
iii) Our defense (Psalm 62:2b, 6)
iv) Our glory (Psalm 62:7)
v) Our strength (Psalm 62:7)
vi) Our refuge (Psalm 62:7, 8)
(III) EXHORTATION TO WAIT ON THE LORD
1. Trust in the Lord at all times (Psalm 62:8a)
2. Pour out the heart to the Lord (Psalm 62:8b)
3. Believe in the power of the Lord (Psalm 62:11c)
4. Hope in the mercy of the Lord (Psalm 62:12a)
