Excerpts
From Coping With Cancer
Foundation "It was our church's solid foundation that guided me ever since; the twin pillars of God's Word - (the Bible), and prayer." Obedience "As I obeyed His voice, I found that He revealed Himself more and more to me and I could rejoice in an even-closer bond with my Saviour." Faith "My faith gives me the strength, courage and wisdom to live a triumphant life, to be able to overcome all difficulties of life and cope with cancer." "And God always keep His promises. I feel His presence and encouragement in my life." Prayer "As Christians it is absolutely vital to understand the importance and necessity of prayer." "Our 'quiet time' is a set time every day for us to meet with the Lord. It requires discipline to probe into spiritual depth, a discipline that will not let anything keep us away from our appointment with God." Fear "The two always go together, the peace of the Lord and the absence of fear." "Fear, worry and anxiety are a result of a deeper problem, the problem of unbelief... The Bible does not tell us that God will remove all problems, it does not promise us good health, but God has promised us all the grace we need to cope with life's problems." Guilt "Now God has forgiven you, forgive yourself, too. God has cleansed you, so put the past behind you. We can ask God to wipe the thoughts and memory of past sins from our mind and help us think of things which are good, pure, lovely (Phil. 4:8) as He renews our mind from within." "You feel great, you are forgiven, and the burden on your soul has been lifted. Now it is time for you to forgive others who have sinned against you. Freely and generously you have been forgiven, now do the same to anyone who has hurt you." Loneliness "God never meant for us human beings to live alone, therefore we are born into a family and surrounded by relatives, friends, acquaintances. God uses people to speak to us, to help us, to encourage us." "The greatest way to combat feelings of loneliness, however, is by developing a close relationship with God. We need never to feel lonely because Jesus is just a prayer away." "Jesus asks us to forget self, to surrender our self to Him, to let His Spirit fill us so that we can be freed from unhappy, sinful feelings." "The Bible tells us that if we make the effort to live a life pleasing to God, we cannot rely on our own will and strength, because we are too weak to overcome our base natural self. It is only when the Holy Spirit fills us and we allow God's power to strengthen us that we can do the seemingly impossible." Love The Bible tells us that "God is love." Love has its source in God, for love is the very essence of His being. God is the embodiment of love, the guiding principle in the world and God's love is revealed in Jesus Christ. It is because God loves us that He sent His Son to earth as Saviour to a dying world. He loved us long before we loved Him." "We love God by relating to Him in prayer, by worshipping Him, by seeking to listen to His Word and by pleasing Him in obeying His commandments." Joy, Hope And Laughter "When you feel that all hope is lost, remember, the hope you had can be regained. Re-focus your perspective on the cross." "...our hope is not the conviction that we shall be healed and then all will be well, but the certainty that what we go through makes sense and that God has a plan, regardless of how it turns out for us." The End Of The Tunnel "...I know that whatever God chooses will be according to His higher purpose either to glorify His name or it may be for my own good, even if I can't see or understand it now." In Conclusion "Walking with Jesus means becoming His disciple, it means letting Him come into our hearts, and then our will, our desires will conform to His and we want to imitate Jesus in our lives, in our lifestyle. Jesus came to earth to serve, to sacrifice His life. If we follow Jesus, we must also be willing to become more like Jesus; to be become 'servants,' to sacrifice, to 'bear fruit,' meaning to bring others to salvation in Christ. His love should fill us, the kind of love that is not selective and is unconditional. We should make His love visible in this darkened world. What a lofty and beautiful reason for living! |
