WELCOME TO BETHANY

We are glad that you have chosen to worship the Lord Jesus with us today. May your hearts be touched by the Lord through worship and fellowship.

COMBINED WORSHIP TODAY

We will be having a Combined Worship today! We rejoice with Mdm. Koh Siew Kim (mother of Mrs. Florence Quah) who will be baptized today! Baptism is something we should rejoice in greatly! There are many reasons why we ought to celebrate with Mdm Koh as she is baptized this morning!

  1. This is the culmination of a long journey towards receiving the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior.
  2. It began many years ago when she attended our Bilingual worship.
  3. It wasn't until recently when her health began to show signs of weakness that she opened her heart to the Lord.
  4. Despite her lack of formal education, Mdm Koh wanted to learn how to read and memorize the Scriptures. Her efforts are to be applauded!
  5. Mdm. Koh Siew Kim is 87 years of age! Her baptism must bring great encouragement to the hearts of all who are seeking to reach out to their parents and grandparents with the Gospel of salvation.

BIBLE MEMORY WORK

TODAY

Sufficient As Ministers

"Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."
2 Corinthians 3:6

1. The Word "Ministers"

This word simply means "servants".

2. Ministers Of The New Covenant

  1. A contrast is attempted here.
  2. There is a contrast between the old covenant and the new covenant:
    1. Old Covenant (represented by Moses and the Law).
    2. New Covenant (established by the Lord Jesus Christ).
  3. We are called "ministers" of the New Covenant.

3. Made Us Sufficient

  1. It is God Himself who will make us sufficient and efficient servants.
  2. It is the Lord Himself who has appointed us to serve Him as His "ministers".
  3. He who calls is able to make us sufficient and successful in ministry.

4. One Special Feature Highlighted

  1. The New Covenant emphasizes "the Spirit" rather than the letter of the Law.
  2. The letter of the law can kill.
  3. However the Spirit gives life.

5. Our Challenge

To appreciate afresh the fact that we are included in the New Covenant because of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

NEXT SUNDAY

Bondservants For Jesus' Sake

"For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake."
2 Corinthians 4:5

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS TRAINING
(1.00 p.m.)

Thank God for the Sunday School teaching staff that we have. Our teachers are deeply committed to the teaching of the Scriptures! They set aside time to study the Scriptures together so that they might be able to teach better!

AM BETHANY MINISTRY

There will be an AM Bethany Discipleship Class this Saturday, 18 July 2009. The Meeting commences at 5.00 pm. We will be meeting at the Sanctuary.

1. Is Discipleship Important?

  1. Yes! Absolutely!
  2. It was the way the Lord Jesus chose to train His followers.

2. What Were Some Of The Goals Jesus Had In Mind When He Trained His Disciples?

  1. He wanted them to become effective fishers of men (Matthew 4:19).
  2. He wanted them to become known as His followers (John 13:34-35).
  3. He wanted to equip them for the task of bearing witness for Him (Acts 1:8).
  4. He wanted them to have fruitful lives and ministries (John 15).

3. AM Bethany Goals

  1. We embrace these as our goals too!
  2. All AM Bethany Meetings will bear these spiritual goals in mind!

POETRY CORNER

DISCIPLESHIP

I thought it hard that Christ should ask of me
To walk through life along a blood-marked way,
And thus it was, I shrank back, tremblingly,
Then paused, and bowed my head, and said Him, Nay!

But looking down I saw, with tear-dimmed eyes,
That all the blood-marks came from pierced feet,
At which I learned, with sad yet glad surprise,
That they were proofs of love, enduring, sweet;

'Twas thus again I looked on Christ's dear face,
And once again I began to follow on -
Since then I've only thought of His great grace,
And fear of blood-marked ways is wholly gone.

PRAYER MEETING
(Monday, 8.00 pm)

Let us gather together for the purpose of learning how to draw closer to the Lord through prayer. Many trials in life can weary us! Prayer is one way of enabling us to overcome weariness of the flesh and spirit!

BIBLE STUDY
(Tuesday, 8.00 pm)

One of the most prominent Judge-Prophets was Samuel! His ministry saw him anointing two kings of Israel, Saul and David! We have just concluded our study of the very significant life and ministry of Samuel. We move on to study the life of another significant prophet of God! This week, we commence our study of the life of the prophet Elijah.
