WELCOME TO BETHANY

We are glad that you have chosen to worship the Lord Jesus with us today! May your heart be greatly encouraged through worship and fellowship.

HOLY COMMUNION TODAY

Let us renew our love and appreciation of what the Lord Jesus did for us when He gave His life for our sins. Let us meditate on this deeply profound text.

"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance."
Hebrews 9:14-15

  1. We have a cleansed conscience.
  2. We may serve the Living God.
  3. We have full redemption.
  4. We may now receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Let us partake of The Lord's Supper with deep gratitude!

CATECHISM CLASS
(1.00 pm)

We continue to study Paul's epistle to the Colossians! What invaluable insights we may derive from a careful study of this short epistle! Our study of the Scriptures diligently would help us cultivate a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ!

BIBLE MEMORY WORK

TODAY

Doubtless You Are Our Father

"Doubtless You are our Father,
Though Abraham was ignorant of us,
And Israel does not acknowledge us.
You, O Lord, are our Father;
Our Redeemer from Everlasting is Your name."

Isaiah 63:16

1. Belief In God Strongly Affirmed

  1. Of faith in God
  2. Of a faith-relationship with God as Father.

2. Battling Doubts

  1. Abraham's ignorance.
  2. Israel's lack of acknowledgment.

3. Belief In God Firmly Declared

  1. Of God as "Father".
  2. Of God as "Redeemer".

NEXT SUNDAY

You Are Our Father

"But now, O Lord,
You are our Father;
We are the clay and You our potter;
And all we are the work of Your hand."

Isaiah 64:8

TESTIMONIES FOR FATHER'S DAY

We will be celebrating Father's Day on 21 June 2009. We are looking for meaningful testimonies from people who remember their loving fathers!

Theme: What My Father Did Right!

Plan to send in your testimonies for inclusion in the Bethany Bulletin. Please send your testimonies as soon as possible!

COMBINED WORSHIP

There will be a special combined worship in a fortnight's time! We will be celebrating Father's Day with a special combined worship service (10.30 am).

JUNIOR CAMP
(22-26 June 2009)

Theme: I Am With You

The Junior Camp is just 3 weeks away! Let us continue to pray for the Lord's blessings on the planning for the Junior Camp!

Reasons why Junior Camps are important! (Two may be highlighted.)

  1. The hearts of children can be deeply impacted by good and positive Camp experiences.
  2. Moving lessons learned in childhood can last a life time!

MINISTRY IN PERTH

Pastor Charlie ministers in Perth this week (8-14 June 2009). This week's ministry is to gear towards two major events:

  1. The ordination of Christopher Lai (10 September 2009).
  2. The celebration of the 15th Anniversary of Bethel IPC (12 September 2009).

BUSSING SERVICE

1. We will be offering a "bussing service" (limited) for:

  1. Those who live in the estate opposite our Church (Tai Keng Garden).
  2. Those who use public transport (and the bus-stop is opposite Bethany).

2. Reasons for starting this "bussing service":

  1. There is now a rail-barrier placed across the road divider.
  2. It is dangerous to attempt to climb over the rail-barrier.
  3. The overhead pedestrian bridge is some distance away from Church and this might prove challenging for those who are much older.
  4. We commence this "bussing service" in June 2009.

3. People in charge of driving the Church Bus:

  1. Morning Worship: Mr. Billy Wan
  2. Bilingual Worship: Mr. S.K. Ho

4. The details that still need to be worked out:

  1. Timing.
  2. Venue for pick-up.

5. "Bussing Service" passengers

Please contact the designated Church Bus drivers mentioned above!
This is a Ministry organized by AM Bethany!

LETTERS THAT WARM THE HEART

Dearest Pastor Charlie, Pastor Mark, Pastor Mitch, SP Morris and my beloved church brethren,

Thank you all for ministering to Aunt when she was battling with cancer in the last two and a half months, and her family over the last 5 days. Words cannot describe my gratitude to all of you for all the love and support that you have given all this while. Even though I may be the only Christian in my own immediate family, God has given me a spiritual family who stood by me during this time of need. This is precious and I thank God that my family and relatives could catch a glimpse of this Christian love during Aunt's funeral and many were impacted.

I would like to especially thank the Pastoral team who ministered to Aunt when she was hospitalized. They rushed down to be with her and baptized her when her condition suddenly took a downturn last Friday morning (29 May 09), and when she passed on in the late afternoon. Aunt's grandson was deeply moved by your act of love, because he heard of a pastor who was reluctant to conduct the funeral of his own church member when she passed on.

Thank God for many who visited Aunt in hospital, encouraging her with God's word and hymns, and praying for her. I'd like to make special mention of a few persons - Joanna who witnessed to Aunt and became a dear friend to her, Aunty Chiew, for her bird's nests and massages for Aunt to ease her discomfort, as well as thoughtful snacks for me and her family, Aunty Sally, Aunty Maureen, Lily Toi, Effie, Touk Reei, Carol, Geraldine, Victor, Marianne, Session Members, and many others who took time to visit Aunt and pray for her even though you did not know her personally. Also, some of my YAG and Sunday School friends like Yvonne Kwek, Shari Tan, Tze Kern, Hong Suen, YC, Wei Hui, Peggy, Annie, Shirley Tan who were there for me and supported me and Aunt in prayers.

And thank you for your love and support demonstrated once again when so many of you took time off to attend and served at the vigil services and funeral service; Chen Kee, Pei Yong and Si Si for printing the programmes. It was the first time for most of my relatives to attend a Christian funeral and many were impacted by what they saw - everyone coming to support, be it the entire Pastoral team, translators, AVA crew, pianists, ushers, One Voice and the love gifts. It was meaningful and honoring to Aunt which was deeply felt by some of her immediate family. Her daughter, Mindy kept telling me the family cannot thank enough for the church. And one of my cousin-in-laws, who is a Christian (there is only a handful in our Ong family) shared with me that she is greatly encouraged by Aunt's conversion which brought renewed sense of hope to her that God will do marvelous work in our midst.

God has taught me many lessons of faith through Aunt's salvation, in particular, the lesson of hope. There were doubts and fears but God certainly is faithful when I was faithless. Not only did Aunt accept the Lord in a definitive way, she held fast to her faith in God, and her decision was respected by her family.

"The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the Lord."

Lamentations 3:25-26

Thank you, Bethany!

All Glory to God,
Siew Chiong

PRAYER MEETING AND BIBLE STUDY IN RECESS

We will be in recess for the month of June! Plan to review what you have studied in the first half of the year! Anything that is not reviewed can be lost - to our great spiritual detriment!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Heart-felt congratulations to Si Yu and Yi Yong on the occasion of their marriage on 6 June 2009. May they know the Lord's full blessings in their marriage!

POETRY CORNER

O GOD, THE ROCK OF AGES

O God, the Rock of Ages,
Who evermore hast been,
What time the tempest rages,
Our dwelling place serene;
Before the first creations,
O Lord, the same as now,
To endless generations,
The everlasting Thou.

Our years are like the shadows
On sunny hills that lie,
Or grasses in the meadows
That blossom but to die;
A sleep, a dream, a story,
By strangers quickly told,
An remaining glory
Of things that soon are told.

O Thou who canst not slumber,
Whose light grows never pale,
Teach us aright to number
Our years before they fail!
On us Thy mercy lighten,
On us Thy goodness rest,
And let Thy Spirit brighten
The hearty Thyself hast blessed!
