Isaiah 60
WHEN
THE GLORY OF THE LORD COMES UPON HIS PEOPLE
THE DESCRIPTION OF "THE GLORY OF THE LORD"
1. It is compared to "light" Isa. 60:1
2. It is contrasted with "deep darkness" Isa. 60:2
3. It is " favour" and "mercy" contrasted with
"wrath" Isa. 60:10
THE PROMISE OF "GLORY"
1. God's glory will come upon His people
2. This glory will be a "visible" one
"His glory will be seen upon you
" Isa. 60:2
"The Gentiles shall come to your light
and kings to the brightness of your rising" Isa. 60:3
3. The Personal Commitment of the Lord to give glory
"Because I have glorified you
" Isa.60:9
"You shall know that I, the Lord, am your Saviour
and Your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob" Isa. 60:16
4. The Glory of the Lord's Sanctuary
"The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together
To beautify the place of My sanctuary
And I will make the place of My feet GLORIOUS" Isa. 60:13
5. The Glory to Extend to the nation
"And they shall call you The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy
One of Israel" Isa. 60:14
THE MANY FACETS OF THIS PROMISED GLORY
1. Involving the whole nation
"Your sons shall come from afar
Your daughters shall be nursed at your side" Isa. 60:4
2. Involving great joy
"You shall become radiant
Your heart shall swell with joy
" Isa. 60:5
3. Involving great wealth
"The abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you
Isa.60:6-7
4. Involving the spiritual dimension- worship
"They shall proclaim the praises of the Lord
They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar
And I will glorify the House of My Glory
" Isa. 60:6-7
5. Involving the rebuilding of the nation
"The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,
and their kings shall minister to you Isa. 60:10
"Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
Instead of iron I will bring silver
Instead of wood, bronze" Isa. 60:17
"I will also make your officers peace
And your magistrates righteousness" Isa.60:17
"Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
Neither wasting nor destruction within your borders" Isa. 60:18
"Also your people shall all be righteous
They shall inherit the land forever" Isa.60:21
6. An eternal glory
"I will make you an eternal excellence
a joy of many generations
" Isa. 60:15
"You shall call your walls Salvation
and your gates Praise" Isa. 60:18
GOD IS GLORIFIED WHEN HIS GLORY IS RISEN UPON HIS PEOPLE
"They shall inherit the land forever,
The branch of My planting,
The work of My hands
That I may be glorified
A little one shall become a thousand,
And a small one a strong nation
I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time
" Isa. 60:21
FROM THE EARTHLY TO THE ETERNAL
The Promise of earthly glory is but a picture of Eternal glory
"The Lord will be to you an everlasting light
and your God your glory" Isa. 60:19
"Your sun shall no longer go down;
Nor shall your moon withdraw itself;
For the Lord will be your everlasting light
And the days of your mourning shall be ended" Isa. 60:20
