THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROPHETIC WORD

1.   It concerns the future

2.   It predicts the future

3.   It guarantees the future

4.   It should generate faith and hope

5.   Our confidence in the Lord and His Word should increase!

 

THE PROPHETIC WORD YET TO BE FULFILLED

1.   We are still living in momentous days where some prophecies have yet to be fulfilled

2.   We should be excited about when God's Word would be fulfilled!

 

THE PROPHECY CONCERNING JERUSALEM

1.   A very specific, and glorious prophecy that can refer only to the Messianic Kingdom

 

2.   Note the following prophetic  statements:-

a)   Jerusalem will have a special place of honour.

      It will be "established and exalted"  Isa 2:2

 

b)   It will become an important hub of great significance,

      "All nations shall flow to it"   Isa 2:2

 

c)   It will become a special religious center

      "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.,

      to the house of the God of Jacob,

      He will teach us His ways,

      And we shall walk in His paths

      For out of Zion shall go forth the law

      And the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem"   Isa 2:3

 

d)   The Lord will rule from Jerusalem (Messianic Kingdom)

      "He shall judge between the nations

      and shall rebuke many nations"   Isa 2:4

 

e)   This rule will be the "Golden Age" where there will be peace

      "They shall beat their swords into plowshares

      And their spears into pruning hooks (knives)

      Nation shall not lift up sword against nation

      Neither shall they learn war anymore"   Isa 2:4

 

"THE DAY OF THE LORD OF HOSTS"   Isa 2:12

1.   This glorious prophetic word and its fulfillment is oftentimes called "The Day of the Lord (of Hosts)"   Isa 2:12

 

2.   There are 2 Main Reactions that we must consider

      a)   It will be a day of terror    Isa 2:10, 19, 21

      b)   It will be a day of glory     Isa 2:10, 19, 21

 

3.   For those who do not love the Day of the Lord

      a)   They will wish that they can hide in that Day

            "Enter into the rock

            and hide in the dust"   Isa 2:10 (Isa 2:19, 21)

 

      b)   Those who take great pride in themselves

            "The lofty looks of man shall be humbled

            The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down" 

                              Isa 2:11 (Isa 2:12-17)

 

      c)   Those who are given to idolatrous practices

            "But the idols He shall utterly abolish...

            In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver

            And his idols of gold

            Which they made,

            Each for himself to worship..."   Isa 2:18, 20

 

4.   For those who love the Day of the Lord

      We will look forward to the Day of the Lord of Hosts

      a)   It will be a display of "the glory of His majesty"   Isa 2:10, 19

 

      b)   It will be a special day where the Lord alone will be exalted in that day   Isa 2:17

 

APPLICATION TO LIFE TODAY

1.   Challenge to walk in the light of the Lord    Isa 2:5

 

2.   Confession of wrong-doing to the Lord   Isa 2:6-9

      a)      Corruption of religious beliefs   Isa 2:6

      b)      Corruption through materialism   Isa 2:7

      c)      Corruption through idolatrous practices    Isa 2:8-9

      d)   No forgiveness to those who are unrepentant   Isa 2:9

 

3.      Commitment to sever ties with sinful people    Isa 2:22
