SIGNIFICANT "SIGNATURE" STATEMENTS OF THE OT PROPHETS

(Contribution from the Book of Isaiah)

 

STATEMENT

"For the LORD has spoken..."   Isa 1:2

 

"Hear the Word of the LORD..."   Isa 1:10

 

"For the mouth of the LORD has spoken..."   Isa 1:20 (Isa 40:5)

 

"Therefore the LORD says, The LORD of Hosts,

the Mighty One of Israel

1.   Heaven is called upon to hear

2.   The Earth is also called to hear and bear witness

 

SIGNIFICANCE OF STATEMENT

Calls Attention to the Following:-

1.   The Majesty of God

2.   The Authority of God

3.   The Power of God

4.   The Glory of God

5.   The "LORD" is a reference to the Covenantal relationship that God has with His people

6.   God continues to do the following:-

      a)   Reason with

      b)   Plead with

      c)      Contend with

7.   The purpose is to have Israel acknowledge its many sins and to have them forgiven

8.   Ultimate end is to be fully restored to God in fullness of fellowship and joy

 

CONTEXT OF STATEMENTS

1.   Ancient Israel that has rejected God

2.   Israel that has rejected God's Word

3.   Israel has not given due regard to the Word of the Lord

4.   God is reaching out to His people

      a)   With words of warning

      b)   With words of love

      c)   With words of comfort

      d)   With words of encouragement

      e)   With words of promise

      f)    With prophetic words concerning the future

5.   If Israel continues to reject God's Word, then it must suffer the necessary and expected consequences!
