THE GREAT MESSIANIC HOPE

 

PROBLEMS IN LIFE

1. The problem of distress                      Isa. 9:1

2.  The problem of oppression               Isa.9:2

3.  The problem of “walking in darkness… dwelling in the shadow of death ”         Isa.9:2

 

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE                                

1.  There will be a light shining in the darkness              Isa. 9:2

2.  The nation will be blessed with a multitude of inhabitants    Isa. 9:2

3.  There will be joy                                  Isa. 9:3

4.  The yoke of an oppressive government will be broken    Isa. 9:4

 

HOPE IN THE FORM OF A CHILD!    Isa. 9:6-7

1.        God’s provision for a Redeemer

2.        God’s description of who This Child Is

a)       He shall be called “Son” (Son of God, Son of Man)

b)       The Government of the kingdom will be upon His shoulders   

c)       His Name shall be called:-

i)                                 Wonderful

ii)                               Counselor

iii)                              Mighty God

iv)                             Everlasting Father

v)                               Prince of Peace

a)       His Kingdom will be eternal

b)       He will bring about peace

c)       He will establish this Kingdom of David

d)       The zeal of the Lord of Hosts guarantees this                       

 

DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM OF SIN (AGAINST ISRAEL)

1.  The sin of arrogance                          Isa. 9:8-10

2.  The anger of the Lord                        Isa. 9:12, 17,21 (“His anger is not turned away…”)

3.  The punishment meted out against Israel    Isa. 9:11-12  (Invasion of Syrian/Philistines)

4.  No repentance upon the part of Israel to discipline from God    Isa. 9:13

5.  Further punishment of Israel (removal of leaders)    Isa. 9:14-17

6.  More punishment because of the wickedness of the people   Isa. 9:18-21
