Proverbs 10

Dear Parents,

REVIEWING THE TASK OF CHRISTIAN PARENTING

The task of parenting must be reviewed again and again. Let us recognize that the task of parenting involves the performance of many functions. Let us highlight some of the functions that parents are called upon to perform.

1. Instruction

Parents have to give very clear instructions to their children. Without good and clear instructions, children would not be able to grow up well.

2. Interaction

Parents are not dictators! They must factor in much interaction with their children.

3. Inspiration

Parents function best when they can inspire their children. Positive encouragement goes a long way to lift up the spirits of the children.

4. Correction

Parenting always involves the work of correction. This area of work is not very pleasant most times, and yet no parent dares to shirk from doing this vital area of work.

5. Role models

Parents would outdo themselves if they become consistent good role models for their children.

6. Parenting Skills

As we read the Scriptures, we recognize the fact that parents need definite skills if they are to bring up their children well!

7. Intercession

Obviously, the task of parenting would drive us to seek the Lord's grace and mercy to fall upon the children. It does not take very long before one recognizes the need to constantly seek the Lord's hand of blessing!

RISING TO THE CHALLENGE OF BEING GOOD CHRISTIAN PARENTS

As we read the Scriptures, particularly the Book of Proverbs, we recognize that it is not easy to become good Christian parents! In fact, it must be said, that it is not easy to be good parents at all!

Let us not be discouraged by the seemingly impossible task of being good and godly parents. Let us seek fresh encouragement from the Lord in prayer always!
